URBAN EYES 2022

What are our goals?

  • Develop our understanding in the role immigration plays in social housing

  • Develop our understanding of community building in the context of immigration and gentrification

  • Create space to find lost narratives in immigration

  • Allow immigrants to be makers and tellers of their stories + understand and hear them

In order to conduct these interviews, we reached out to a variety of community leaders, including individuals who have been involved in immigrant advocacy organizations, or community development organizations. We have included a diverse range of voices, including those from different cultural backgrounds and generations.

During the interviews, we asked participants to share their experiences and perspectives on the history of immigration in Regent Park, including how different immigrant groups have contributed to the social fabric of the community and how these communities have changed over time. We also asked about the impact of redevelopment on already-established communities, including any challenges or benefits that have arisen as a result.

Ultimately, the goal of this project is to gain a deeper understanding of the role of immigration in shaping social communities in Regent Park and to examine the ways in which redevelopment has impacted these communities. By collecting and analyzing the perspectives of community leaders, we hope to provide valuable insights that can inform policy decisions and support efforts to create more inclusive and equitable communities.
